Lying on Back Theory

I have heard time and time again the avian humanoids must lie on their side or stomach or else their wings could be damaged. But this hardly seems necessary. It would be alright to lie on your back with wings and you probably should for several reasons. The first being that you become lighter with wings, next is birds can fall on their backs with undamaged wings, and the final reason is that it is more comfortable to lie on your back.

With the growth of wings, you will become lighter. When wings grow on a being, they don't just suddenly appear effortlessly. When a child grows older, they do not suddenly become an adult effortlessly (although it seems so). Children normally have fat to support their growth and must also consume a lot of calories to provide energy for their body's growth. It is no different from growing wings. When one is growing wings, they must sustain their energy because they are losing tremendous amounts of weight in order to provide energy for the wing's growth. Being that wings are ordinarily an alien appendage on a homosapien, therefore tremendous amounts of stored and consumed energy will be exerted and there will be a large decrease in weight. Keep in mind that the wings will be a delicate structure, but to hold you up and with their size, they will be strong, sturdy mechanisms. Wings and their host become more balanced in order to support each other. With your light weight and strong wings, you probably won't hurt them by lying on your back.

Another point I would like to make is that birds fall on top of their wings plenty of times without damaging their wings. I have a Quaker Parrot, and he (the ditsy klutz he is) always falls over onto his back and he simply stands back up, wings unharmed. This may have to do with a bird's wings closing perfectly to fit snug onto their form. An avian human will have a similar way of closing their wings safely. However, depending on how one (birds and avian humans) lies on their back will determine the condition of their wings. Wings closed or fully extended may be best for comfort and safety.

Finally, it is simply comfortable. Just because of the new addition to your body, doesn't mean your sleep position must drastically change. You can choose to sleep on your back, side or stomach. But be wary of sleeping on your stomach. Lying on your stomach can one (for females) cause breasts to sag, and two (anyone) elevate your head the wrong way, damaging your neck.

Even though I am yet to have wings, the reasons a logical, and from observations and research. So in conclusion, it seems safe to say you CAN lie on your back when with wings.
